Maria Vysotsanska ends her career in rhythmic gymnastics
Maria Vysotsanska, the captain of the Ukrainian national rhythmic gymnastics team in group exercises, announced the end of her sports career.
“I am ready to say very important words for me. I am ending my sports career, and you will no longer see me on the mat. Here I want to thank everyone who has been with me for these 18 years,” said Maria Vysotsanska in her farewell address.
The last competition for Vysotsanska was the 2024 Olympics in Paris, where she and the Ukrainian team finished seventh in the group all-around final. She also has six medals from the European Championships, of which two are gold, as well as one bronze from the World Championship 2023.
Previously, a seven-year-old Ukrainian girl who lost her leg during a Russian shelling won a gymnastics tournament. For the first Time after her injury, the girl stepped onto the mat and competed with a prosthesis.
