Typhoon 'Bebinca' becomes the strongest in Shanghai since 1949
Typhoon 'Bebinca', which reached the city of Shanghai in eastern China, became the most powerful in this city since 1949, according to the Central Meteorological Bureau of China. The strong wind reached speeds of 42 meters per second.
'Bebinca surpassed Typhoon 4906 'Gloria' and became the strongest typhoon to reach Shanghai since 1949,' the bureau said in a statement.
It is expected that 'Bebinca' will continue to move west-northwest at a speed of about 25 kilometers per hour and gradually lose its intensity during this Time. By the night of September 17, the typhoon will weaken to a tropical depression in the border area of Anhui and Henan provinces.
Earlier, the Central Meteorological Bureau of China issued the highest red alert level due to the approaching typhoon.
In connection with this, Shanghai airports - 'Pudong' and 'Hongqiao' - canceled all flights after 20:00 (15:00 Kyiv time) on Sunday. According to Central China Television, flights will be resumed no earlier than 14:00 on Monday (9:00 Kyiv time). Ningbo city airport also suspended flights. In addition, passenger train services on some railway lines in the Yangtze River Delta were suspended, and speed limits of 40 kilometers per hour were imposed on Shanghai's roads.
