Dutch intelligence revealed the activities of the Russian hacker group Laundry Bear
According to the Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands, since 2024, the Laundry Bear group has carried out large-scale cyberattacks on EU and NATO institutions to gather intelligence on arms supplies to Ukraine. In September of this year, the hackers attacked Dutch government agencies, stealing confidential data of police workers and official information.
According to Vice Admiral Peter Resink, Laundry Bear focuses on law enforcement bodies, defense contractors, and high-tech companies supplying products to Ukraine. The hacker group employs sophisticated methods to access networks that are hard to detect and can go unnoticed for long periods, noted the director of the Dutch military intelligence and security service.
The international espionage activities of the Laundry Bear hacker group are only part of the threat, and the hackers turned out to be part of a broader military conflict and struggle against Western countries. Dutch intelligence services shared the hackers' working methods to strengthen the country's cybersecurity and avoid similar attacks in the future.
