Popular SPA resorts in Europe are under threat of disappearance.

According to Euronews, climate change threatens the natural springs that feed the famous SPA resorts in Europe due to rising temperatures, floods, and droughts. In particular, the public relations coordinator of The Great Spa Towns of Europe, Naomi O'Toole, claims that these phenomena may affect the spring outlet points and the speed of water flow, but more data needs to be collected to fully understand this process.
Historical spa towns in Europe, such as Bath in the UK, Baden-Baden in Germany, and Vichy in France, have attracted visitors seeking healing for centuries. Even eleven of these resorts have made it to the UNESCO World Heritage list. However, due to climate change, they are increasingly suffering from floods, including Austrian Baden bei Wien in 2024 and Spa in Belgium in 2021. The city of Bath in the UK has even been forced to temporarily close its pools due to repeated floods that exceeded the expected frequency.
Moreover, large spa towns in Europe are joining the 'Heritage Preservation' program aimed at protecting their heritage from the negative impacts of climate change. This project provides cities with access to tools, technical training, and a network of partners to develop climate adaptation strategies and implement them across Europe.
Thus, climate change is becoming a serious threat to the natural springs that feed the famous SPA resorts in Europe. However, spa towns are now actively working on finding ways to address this issue, collaborating within the 'Heritage Preservation' program.
