Around Easter in Ukraine, the price of food products, which are usually purchased for the festive basket, rises. Prices for eggs, dairy products, poultry meat, and vegetables are growing particularly quickly, while grocery items are depreciating slightly. This is reported by 'Khvylya' referring to 'Product Monitoring UKAB'.
This year, eggs have risen the most in price - in the last month, their average price has increased by 9% and reached 76.4 hryvnias per dozen. Compared to April 2024, this is almost 30% more. Experts explain this increase by high demand before the holidays.Analysts note that the most important components of Easter expenses are Easter bread, eggs, cheese, and meat products, and demand for them usually increases in the last two weeks before Easter. This year, demand will be even higher as April 20 falls on Easter for both Eastern and Western Christian traditions.
Easter bread has also significantly increased in price: preparing 3-4 traditional Easter products weighing 500-600 grams each will now cost 318.4 hryvnias, which is 38.6% more than last year. The main reasons for the price increase were butter, which rose by 71%, milk - by 31%, and eggs - by 61%.The cost of the Easter basket has also risen. The budget option with Easter bread, colored eggs, salt, horseradish, and a candle now costs 426 hryvnias, which is 33% more than in 2024. If cheese, sausage, and mustard are added, the cost reaches 847 hryvnias, and a full basket with kagar, vegetables, and lard will cost 1185 hryvnias, which is 17% more than last year. Experts warn that during the last two weeks before the holiday, prices may increase by another 5-7%. Despite this, the purchasing power of Ukrainians remains low, but many families are preparing for Easter and are willing to spend more.
