Pope Francis was unable to finish his sermon: what prevented him.

Pontiff Francis could not complete his sermon due to breathing problems. During a special mass on the occasion of the anniversary of the armed forces, police, and security forces in St. Peter's Square, the pontiff handed the text to the ceremony master and asked him to read it to the end. The Pope, who is being treated for severe bronchitis, asked his assistant to continue reading the sermon.
In his sermon, the pontiff urged military and security personnel to 'always be at the service of life' and 'never forget the purpose of their service.' He also called for vigilance against the spread of a war mentality and not to succumb to propaganda of hatred.
The pontiff noted that military service is intended for legitimate self-defense and does not aim to dominate other nations. He also called for prayers for peace in countries experiencing war, particularly in Ukraine.
Pope Francis began the New Year by urging believers to reject abortion and protect life. He also called for forgiving all debts of poor countries. Earlier, during the Christmas message, the pontiff called for a ceasefire in Ukraine and peaceful negotiations.
He also urged for a ceasefire in the Middle East, the release of hostages, and assistance to the starving and military.
