A tragic accident took the life of a Ukrainian defender. Let us remember Stepan Chykuiai.


Ukrainians honored the memory of Stepan Chykuiai.
On February 5, 2025, Ukrainian defender Senior Sergeant Stepan Chykuiai died from injuries sustained in an accident during a fire at a medical facility in Zaporizhzhia. This was reported by the Kalush City Council.
Stepan Chykuiai was born on March 23, 1977, in Kalush. After graduating from school, he studied at the Voynyliv Military School and then served in the Ukrainian army, where he achieved the rank of senior sergeant.
After the army, Stepan worked and got married. He had two children. From 2015 to 2017, he participated in the anti-terrorist operation in Eastern Ukraine, and with the onset of the Russian invasion in 2022, he returned to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Stepan served as a driver of a military unit and was injured in battle, but after recovering, he returned to service.
“Unfortunately, due to the injuries sustained during the accident at a fire in one of the medical facilities in Zaporizhzhia, the heart of our defender stopped beating on February 5, 2025,” reported the Kalush City Council.
Stepan Chykuiai was buried at the Alley of Glory in the city cemetery.
He is survived by his wife and children. We honor the memory of all Ukrainians who died in the struggle for freedom and independence. We light candles in memory and bow our heads during the national minute of silence, honoring the bright memory of the citizens of Ukraine who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of our state.
