The Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that raising the sunken Russian oil tankers will be a very complex operation that cannot be conducted until the end of the storm season.
Spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, Captain 3rd Rank Dmytro Pletenchuk, stated that the consequences of the Russian oil spill will be noticeable even before spring.
'It is difficult to assess because in this area there are no foreign observers, just as there are none from Ukraine. It must be understood that they are trying to conceal the results of this catastrophe as much as possible, for which the Russian Federation is directly responsible,' the spokesman noted.
The captain explained that the operation to raise the vessels from the seabed is being developed over several days.
'Of course, one can expect anything from the Russians, but this, firstly, is risky, and secondly, it requires a lot of Time for organizing and conducting the operation. Appropriate tools are also needed for this. I am not sure that there are such tools in the Sea of Azov-Black Sea region right now,' the spokesman emphasized.
According to Pletenchuk, the consequences of the oil spill will have to be dealt with even before spring.
