In Volyn, railway workers were tried for the illegal transportation of a draft evader.

In Luboml, Volyn, a court issued a verdict to two employees of Ukrzaliznytsia, who in January 2025 conspired to illegally transport a conscripted man to Poland. They hid him in the cooling chamber of a locomotive. For this 'service', one of them received 8 thousand USD. This became known from the court verdict published in the Unified State Register of Court Decisions.

Ukrzaliznytsia employees decided to profit from smuggling a man abroad

The locomotive driver and his assistant knew that during martial law, men aged 18 to 60 were prohibited from leaving. However, one of them, having regular routes to Poland, agreed to help a citizen who had no legal grounds to cross the border. Meetings and preliminary agreements took place in December 2024, and already on January 21, 2025, the man was hidden in the technical compartment of the locomotive, which passed through the international checkpoint 'Yahodyn'. According to the investigation, it was the driver who received a cash reward, while his colleague was involved in the execution of the plan but did not know about the payment. Both defendants admitted their guilt and expressed remorse. The court took into account mitigating circumstances - positive references, lack of criminal records, one of them's participation in combat operations and awards for service.

The driver, recognized as the organizer of the smuggling, received a sentence of four years of restriction of liberty with confiscation of property and a ban on holding positions related to transportation across the border for three years.

The assistant driver received three years of restriction of liberty but was released from serving the sentence on probation for two years. He is required to register with probation authorities and report any changes in residence or employment.

It should be noted that in Transcarpathia, a man was tried for embezzling payments for a deceased relative in the war. It turned out that he was the godfather of the soldier. And in Lviv, a soldier who returned from captivity sued the military unit, where he was denied additional leave. The court imposed punishment on both defendants, considering their remorse and certain mitigating circumstances.
