Today, May 18, the ceremony of the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV will take place. This significant event will happen during the mass in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, will also be present at the celebration.
Security during the event will be ensured by over 5 thousand law enforcement officers. It is expected that around 250 thousand pilgrims will attend this event. There will be an online broadcast of the solemn ceremony.
Let us remind you that Pope Leo XIV, during the Jubilee of Eastern Churches in the Vatican, welcomed the believers of the Eastern rite and emphasized the importance of preserving their spiritual traditions. He also called for prayers for true peace, 'which is reconciliation, forgiveness, and the courage to turn the page and start anew.'
Pope Leo XIV firmly expressed his commitment 'to do everything possible to establish peace.' In particular, he confirmed the Holy See's readiness to do everything possible 'to help enemies meet face to face, talk to each other,' to engage in dialogue, 'so that nations everywhere can find hope and rediscover... the dignity of peace.'
President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his gratitude to Pope Leo XIV for his offer of mediation in restoring peace worldwide. It has also become known that Pope Leo XIV expressed a desire to communicate with the President of Ukraine on Sunday, May 18.
The solemn ceremony of Pope Leo XIV's inauguration was successfully held, with the presence of numerous pilgrims and world leaders. The meeting between the President of Ukraine and the Pope is expected to be significant for discussing issues of peace and dialogue between nations.
