The European Commission recommends that residents of EU countries have stocks of necessary goods for three days in case of crisis situations, such as cyberattacks and sabotage. This recommendation is contained in a report on ensuring civilian and military protection, published by the European Commission, reports Deutsche Welle.

The authors of the report recommend developing instructions for citizens on the availability of necessary products and protective measures in case of chemical, biological or nuclear incidents. One cyberattack can lead to power grid shutdowns and plunge entire cities into darkness, said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

In addition, the European Commission proposes to organize a European Day of crisis preparedness, where the population will be provided with necessary explanations regarding safety measures. The authors of the report concluded that the European Union is not sufficiently prepared for hybrid attacks from Russia and attempts to destabilize the situation in the EU.

Experts recommend creating a special anti-sabotage network that will facilitate cooperation between national special services and the EU intelligence center. The report also discusses the need to create legal frameworks for access to encrypted data to combat terrorism, espionage, and sabotage.

Moreover, the report recommends creating a single European market for defense products to remove barriers in the procurement of weapons and military equipment.

It is worth noting that Switzerland has begun modernizing old bomb shelters and civil defense bunkers due to threats of increasing security levels globally. The active modernization process will continue over the next 15 years and will cost approximately 220 million francs ($ 254 million).
