The EU is preparing the toughest sanctions against Russia since 2022.

The European Union is preparing the most severe package of sanctions against Russia since 2022. The restrictions are being formulated based on French initiatives and will be aimed directly at draining the financial resources that allow Vladimir Putin to continue the war.
Barreau believes that Putin is not successful on the front and has therefore intensified attacks on civilians
This was stated by the French Foreign Minister
Jean-Noël Barreauduring a broadcast on the French TV channel TF1.
Barreau emphasized that the new sanctions will be a response to the escalation from Moscow. In particular, he pointed out the fivefold increase in the number of attacks on Ukrainian cities, which are increasingly directed against civilians.
The minister stressed that Putin is no longer achieving successes on the battlefield and has instead focused on massive shelling of residential areas, leading to numerous casualties among civilians.
'Europe is preparing to adopt, based on French proposals, the toughest sanctions we have implemented in 3 years, which will directly deplete the resources that allow Vladimir Putin to continue his war,' said Barreau.
In his interview, the minister emphasized that Russia must at least cease fire. In addition, the official also announced measures aimed at reducing Russia's oil revenue, as well as restrictions against financial intermediaries that facilitate circumventing existing sanctions.
Barreau is convinced that increasing economic pressure is a necessary step to force the Kremlin to change its aggressive policies.
It is worth noting that recently President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a package of sanctions against the Russian cryptocurrency sector. Meanwhile, the EU has still not been able to reach an agreement on the 18th package of sanctions against Russia, while US President Donald Trump commented on whether any restrictions against the Kremlin will be imposed.
The European Union is preparing to impose the strictest sanctions against Russia in the last three years. France initiated this step, which is aimed at depleting financial resources that sustain the war in Donbas. The sanctions are related to the escalation of the conflict and a reassessment of the Kremlin's strategy, which is aimed at the civilian population of Ukraine.
