Up to 105 hryvnias per kilogram: experts revealed the reason for the rise in tomato prices.

Ukraine faces a decrease in tomato supplies due to weather conditions in Turkey
Due to bad weather conditions in Turkey, which is the main supplier of greenhouse tomatoes to Ukraine, the number of available tomatoes in the Ukrainian market has noticeably decreased. This has given sellers the opportunity to raise prices, experts from the EastFruit project report.
According to daily monitoring results, wholesale prices for tomatoes in Ukraine today range from 85 to 105 hryvnias per kilogram, which is approximately equivalent to 2.01-2.48 US dollars. This is an average of 10% higher than last week.
'Sellers are hesitant to significantly raise prices due to very weak demand from both wholesale companies and retail chains', - market experts note.
It is worth noting that current prices for greenhouse tomatoes are already 36% higher than in mid-January 2024. However, market participants believe that this price increase is a temporary phenomenon.
Experts predict a possible decrease in prices as early as next week when normal vegetable supplies from Turkey resume in the Ukrainian market.
In addition, it has become known that Ukraine is building a network of large vegetable storage facilities in all regions.
